Can anyone help me with a Bt Home Hub Problem?
I have one of the white BT Home Hubs, and I use it for quite a few devices (iPod, Laptop, Xbox etc.) and recently it has given my laptop, Xbox and Wii the same IP address. Are there any ways I can manually set the IP address to what I want? Thanks.
Yes, you can easily set your various networking items to have a fixed IP address, I've included a link below to instructions for each of the pieces of equipment you mentioned. However, in true IT stylee.. Have you tried rebooting the Home Hub? Also it's not actually important if the home hub gives them the same IP address to different equipment, so long as they aren't switched on at the same time, I'm guessing that's the problem though, so read on.
Find out what the current IP address is.
On your laptop, click on start and then run and type CMD and press ok, or if you are in Vista, Click on All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt.
Whichever way you do it, in the black box, type "ipconfig /all" and note down the lines that tell you te IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and dns servers. They'll probably say something like:
IP Address 192.168.0.22
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:192.168.0.1
DNS Server:192.168.0.1
When you come to set each of your items the subnet mask, default gateway and dns server all stay the same, as does the first 3 parts of the IP address. When I come to set IP addresses, I tend to start at 200, so you set the IP addresses for each of them as follows:
192.168.0.200
192.168.0.201
192.168.0.202
192.168.0.203
etc....
That way hopefully you won't clash with anything else.
