Does the VSTA AsRock motherboards take 2gb sticks of ram in the DDR2 dimm slot?
Also if you have dual DVI or Dual VGA in one video card, do each monitor only get half of the video card's entire memory? For example if I have a 512mb card with dual VGA and I have monitors running out of both, does each monitor get 256mb?
Yes it will take 2gb sticks, and the graphics card does not split the ram, it processes both screens at one as one large screen with twice the resolution. The RAM holds the all data for the graphics information, not just whats being displayed on the screen, so it doesnt use any more ram than having one screen, but it does require a more powerful graphics processor, since it will now be making twice as many calculations out of the information stored in the RAM.
On top of that, new cards automatically use a certain amount of free system RAM, mine uses an extra 768mb, and it boosts performance greatly.
I have a laptop with the ATI x1600 with hypermemory (the ATI name for RAM sharing) and I play a BF2. the game itself only uses about 800mb or RAM, so when I had only 1gb my graphics card was no allocating any system ram, but when I upgraded to 2gb of RAM it automatically allocated 768mb extra, which shot my performance through the roof. Before I could not play it on medium settings, but now it will play on maximum settings as well as it did on low settings before.
So as long as you have a decent level of system RAM you should not have to worry about it.
