Looking for inexpensive EMC storage?
To studying for storage certifications, I am building a home SAN. I currently have 2 Brocade 2800 switches, they are 1Gbit/sec LC (GBIC) and I am looking for an inexpensive EMC (or similiar) stroage unit that I can connect to complete my home fibre SAN. I purchased both switches for less than $200.
I just want some suggestions as to what models I can get that will be compatible that I can look for to purchase.
Any suggestions will be helpful.
I don’t think that you can find anything branded EMC and inexpensive but of course keep an eye on eBay.
My suggestion would be to buy NetApp boxes. NetApp boxes can be used as NAS or SAN so you have to be sure that the box has enough FC ports. You have to check it before place the order.
The second issue is the license. I guess you want to try all features of these boxes (at least you need to create LUNs). You need appropriate license to do it. Please be sure that the boxes include necessary licenses. Or just check the provider’s web sites for trial licenses.
If we take a look to big picture, my suggestion would be; find a local company in SAN business and offer them to use their demo devices. They also have trial licenses.
Good luck.
