How do you reflect a square root function in the y-axis?
I know how to reflect in the x-axis, but a y-axis reflection confuses me since you would make the x negative.. but then it would be under the square root sign. And those are imaginary numbers!
When you make the x-value negative, you don't change the y-value. You replace the point (x,y) with (-x,y).
Put another way, when you make the reflection, you replace every occurence of x in the given equation with -x, so you're no longer graphing y=sqrt(x); instead, you're graphing y = sqrt(-x).
