eprom programming error "error at 0x000000 chip = 0xff buffer = 0x80"?

Im trying to program a m27c801eprom but when it is finished programming i get this error "error at 0x000000 chip = 0xff buffer = 0x80"

That is the verify portion telling you the chip was not programmed. The very first byte (position 0) did match the expected value. Reading the chip gave the value 0xff, when it should have been 0x80.

The device reads 0xff if the chip was never programmed or connected incorrectly. The first thing to do is verify the chip is inserted correctly.

It's possible the programmer is malfunctioning. If you can, get a chip that is known to be programmed and verify you can read the eprom. If you cannot read an eprom, you cannot write it.

I don't know anything about that specific programmer.
