Ethernet Cable not recognized?
Alright heres the story:
I have my router on the first floor of my house. The router itself is working perfectly fine and so is the internet in general. (different computers hooked onto it working fine) I have an Ethernet cable going to another room in my house where I used to have a computer, but it is no longer there.
My computer is now in a different room, but the Ethernet cable is not long enough to reach to that room. I bought a RJ45 Coupler F-F Straight. And used a Cat5 cable. When I joined them all, and plugged it into the computer..nothing happens. Its not even being recognized. In network and sharing center it says Network cable unplugged.
Any help or tips what is causing or may be the problem?
Start with the physical layer. Make sure each individual cable works properly. Try different ports on the router. See if the led on the router or the light on the NIC lights up.
You should also know that CAT5 ethernet cable has a limit of about 100m. You might want to try a hub/repeater instead of the coupler over long distances.
