UPS concerns for home lab?
At my house, there are issues with power staying online. I understand the need for a UPS and have purchased a couple of them (beefy ones from APC). I have a total of approximately 10 systems (4 cases/towers, 6 rackmount 1U devices) - one 19" LCD monitor, one 19" CRT monitor, two keyboards/mice, an all-in-one printer, a wireless router and a 4-port switch that make up my lab. I know I'll need UPS but there are two routes I can take - one UPS for each system or a rackmount UPS that will take care of all of them. I'd like to find the most cost-effective approach to ensuring that, should I get a spike, brownout or power loss for 10 minutes or less, I'll be covered with UPS power. Any/all feedback is much appreciated.
Try www.powerware.com. They can be expensive, but they will keep you up and running long enough to safely shut down everything. They also have a "call home" feature, in addition to constant monitoring.
