Oil Furnance High Voltage Transformer has small amount of tar like substance leaking out of it??? Why?
Does that mean there is something wrong with the high voltage transformer (have to hit the reset button sometimes to make the furnace work, but it start then). Or has something else caused the high voltage transformer to leak out this stuff. Transformer is mounted on top with hinge to swing out to back to access points/nozzle etc.
The material leaking is the insulating dielectric. Depending on how old the unit is, it may or may not contain PCB's. It should be marked on the label plate if it does not contain PCB. No matter what, the insulation is going and the transformer is failing. Replace it and dispose of the old one properly. Put it in a plastic bag, just to prevent a mess.
