How to wire a Cat5e cable with all solid colors?
I'm trying to run 2 cat5e cables into keystone jacks. I did the first one successfully with the diagrams I found on google, but when I go to strip the second cable the wire colors are different. The first one had the typical orange,blue, green, brown and a striped of each color, but the second has 8 different colors, no stripes. It has blue, light blue, green, light green, brown, tan, orange and white. I searched for answers for hours on how to wire with these colors, but found nothing. So I went and bought another cable and this cable is the exact same. Is there some kind of color conversion chart that I missed or a separate diagram? Thanks for any help.
It sounds like you have a regular low-voltage cable. If it was sold to you as a CAT-5 Cable I'd first look at the outer casing and see if it says CAT5, 5e, 6, whatever on it. If it does I'd strip off the outer casing and see if the pairs of wires were twisted. If they are I'd be amazed and asking the same question you are. I'd bet that it's not really a UTP cable and would return them both.
If it really is just the wring colors you could look at what pairs are twisted together and just call the pairs orange, blue, green, etc. and further designate which one is the "white striped" one. Then wire normally. The important thing is to keep the pairs together.
I can honestly say I've never seen a CAT-3 or later cable that did not use the standard color codes. And I've terminated hundreds of them.
