What should i do when i swallow a small cut wire of my braces?
My bracket at the end tooth got off last week and today I was eating lunch and the excess wire got cut and I accidentally swallowed it. I took those colon cleansing pills so that I can release it through my bowel. What should I do? Please I need help Im only 12 going 13 years old.
If you truly swallowed a piece of wire, colon cleansing can make it worse by moving this sharp object through the intestines and possibly cutting/stabbing/lodging along the way. I'm an orthodontic assistant and i see these poking wires frequently, however have never heard of anyone swallowing a piece of wire. They are very hard to cut even with our tools and i doubt your teeth would be able to do this with food. BUT, that being said, you need to tell your parents and possibly have an x-ray to make sure it's not lodged in your digestive tract and then you need to go to your orthodontist and have this area re-bonded and a new wire placed. It's important you don't wait to have brackets/wires/bands fixed when they break.
