Wireless dongle works fine, having trouble getting my ethernet card to work with the ADSLmodem?
Last year I finally got the net, Although I couldn't figure out why the ethernet card would communicate with the ADSLmodem as a result of turned to wireless. A couple of days ago I asked my school administrator about the problem and he said that if the wireless is working fine you should be able to connect directly to the modem with a cat5 and it should connect. It was great advice but didn't really help. I think I might have to configure some settings on either the computer of the modem. here are the modem's specs:
name: DSL-G604T
VPN support: PPTP/L2TP/IPSec pass-through
Network Address/Port Translation (NAPT)
Authentication: PAP and CHAP
DoS (UPT/TCP), detection of known attacks
SPI firewall protection
Web login password authentication
SNMP v.1,v.2c support with built-in MlB (RFC 1213)
Syslog monitoring
SNTP, DNS proxy and IGMP proxy
IGMP Snooping with 32 Multicast groups
1 RJ-11 ADSL port
4 RJ-45 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet LAN switch ports
802.11g wireless LAN
The issue will be at your computer in most cases! So the information you have given with the router is not really too relevant.
To help we need to know, what OS you are running, have you ever been able to use ethernet and the ethernet port?
Start with a check of the system, I will assume you are running Windows XP, right click on "My Computer" -- click Properties --Click on the Hardware Tab -- Click Device Manager. Check to see that under "network adapters" both the wireless and a Local Area adapter are listed and working! You can also get to Network Adapters from the Control Panel if this method does not work.
Connect an ethernet cable to the computer with the other end running to any of the open LAN connections on the router.
Again with XP (or even Vista) you should see in the lower right hand corner of the screen on the task bar the "Local Area Connection" - it appears as two small computers. It should tell the status of the ethernet connection! Start with that information. More than likely your network settings for that Local Area Adapter are incorrect! Follow the setup guides for your operating system to correct this!
Or tell us what OS and what happens when you do use ethernet!
